The story
Marcos Zapata (active in Cusco, 1748–1773) ran one of the city's most prolific workshops and is the closest thing this tradition has to a household name — his Last Supper, still hanging in Cusco Cathedral, remains unsourced for this collection (see DECISIONS.md), but this attributed workshop piece stands in for his hand here.
The composition folds an enthroned Madonna together with a specific documented event — the graduation of the García brothers — a reminder that Cusco workshops painted occasional and commemorative subjects, not only fixed devotional types.
A named workshop, caught doing something more specific than another anonymous shrine portrait.
