The story
Pomata's Dominican sanctuary sits on the Lake Titicaca altiplano, and its own Rosary Virgin became, like Cocharcas and Copacabana, a devotion specific enough to travel under its own name. This canvas shows her enthroned with the Christ Child, in the same triangular, gold-worked mantle that marks nearly every pilgrimage Virgin the Cusco workshops reproduced.
What distinguishes a Pomata Virgin from her sister images is mostly documentary — the inscribed name, the specific crown, the attributes tied to that one shrine's own miracle stories — rather than anything visually singular. That repetition-with-a-name is exactly how this tradition worked: one gold-leaf toolkit, deployed shrine by shrine across an empire.
