The story
The Adoration of the Magi — the three kings arriving with gifts for the infant Christ — was a standard Gospel narrative scene across the entire Spanish colonial world, and Cusco workshops painted it with the same close, textile-conscious attention to costume they brought to their gold-leaf Virgins: the Magi's robes are as carefully worked as any Marian mantle elsewhere in this collection.
A rare genuinely crowded, multi-figure composition next to the tradition's more common single- or double-figure devotional portraits — worth looking at for the staging alone.
